The main part of data is about a major, ongoing rebuilding project (that’s) located on Mechelininkatu, in central Helsinki. We encourage you to go wild with your ideas – that’s what we’re looking for.

Judging criteria

Use indicated data sets freely to innovate production of services supportive data solutions. It is valuable that the solution regarding the data is innovative, and useful for future infrastructure construction related projects. Main focus is the innovative data approach and the benefit for the city people.

Judge will select the winner which has most useful solution within the future infrastructure construction of the streets of Helsinki.

Prizes

First Prize is 2000€ (for an enterprise related to the winners) and a possibility to introduce it more detail to city officials.

ANALYZED INFORMATION AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

The challenge

Develop a solution or solutions that generate information by joining, analyzing and visualizing open data sets. This solution should able to be embedded in websites, update information automatically and generate information that interests especially enterprises.

National, regional and local governments generate uncounted amounts of various open data sets. These open data sets can be transformed into useful regional information by using data analyzing tools which the city of Espoo has already done to some extent.

However, this already analyzed regional information is often scattered or otherwise difficult to find. Also, due to limited financial resources much of this regional data has not been analyzed. As a result, various private actors experience difficulties in acquiring all the relevant and necessary information.

The city of Espoo is looking for cost-effective ways to transform data sets into useful regional information and distribute it to various private actors already located in Espoo area or aiming to relocate/expand into Espoo area.

The challenge is to develop a solution or solutions that generate information by joining, analyzing and visualizing open data sets. This solution should generate information that interests especially enterprises. Also, this solution should be able to be embedded in different type of websites and update information automatically.

Judging criteria are: Innovativeness, viability and feasibility, utility, awesomeness, and novelty of the design, recognition of existing resources, identification of a lucrative market and financial realism.

We appreciate following criteria when judging a solution:

  • The information generated by this solution is a combination of different statistical and spatial data sets analyzed by mathematical and geospatial operations.
  • The generated information interests enterprises.
  • Visual presentation of the information generated.
  • Solution is scalable, can to be embedded in websites and update information automatically.

ADAPTIVE SMART ELECTRIC HEATING

The challenge

Controllable smart heating can cut down unnecessary energy consumption. Heating management can be utilized through third party data and a backend service data that is open and scalable. It can learn and remember. But most of all, what else could it do?

What we’ll bring

Ensto will bring several types of electric heaters for the teams to play around with. These units all have a connection capability via Bluetooth to external devices. We will also bring a stack of development boards on top of which teams can develop part of their solution. Ensto’s electric heaters and floor heating thermostats are equipped with electronic thermostats that can be separately controlled by mobile app. Teams will get detailed descriptions on how to access the heaters themselves and Ensto´s technical team will be there to help them.

Extra details

We appreciate if solutions would not focus on just controlling one device, but managing the system as a whole. Where heating is something for the entire room or building, not forgetting the experience of the end users.

Problems of interest

We encourage the teams to think how to utilize external data, for example weather or pricing data and to think of a killer solution for the end users.

Judging criteria

We value new out of the box ideas on how to take something that might already be installed, and providing a new innovative approach to utilizing it.

Incorporating different sources of data to the solutions will be recognized.

In a digital nation, a key challenge is upholding each citizen’s identity in a transparent but secure registry. To do so, we are looking for a distributed identity registration system that is built on the Bytom blockchain. Using a private key to protect your information, citizens should be able to authorize specific people who can access the data, set time limits to the use of data, or even profit from using Bytom smart contract to authorize other users.
